A personally designed sojourn to the England of their dreams. You will explore the world famous Newark Antique Market, Europe's largest, along with visits to Althorp, childhood home of Princess Diana, Waddesdon the Rothschild Estate, Chatsworth the home of the Dukes of Devonshire and Charleston the center of the Bloomsbury Group of influential early 20th century artists and authors. Each day will offer unique events, focusing on afternoon tea, antiques and Amy's passion for the arts and creative pursuits.
August 13, Saturday - Arrival in London at Heathrow Airport no later than 11:00am this morning. Our group will assemble at a local airport hotel and our coach will depart for Tunbridge Wells. We will enjoy a welcome lunch and explore this gorgeous town filled with antiques and treasures. Proceed to Rye, an historic coastal village. Our home for the next three nights is The Mermaid a 14th century coaching inn. This evening a private tour at Charleston, an artist's home and garden is planned. We will expereince the early 20th century artisitc movement referred to as the Bloomsbury Group. Some of the noted authors are TS Elliot and EM Forster. Tonight dinner at the charming pub The Cricketeer, a favorite of Chris and Amy. L/D
August 14, Sunday - Enjoy a full English breakfast at our charming country inn before setting out on a day filled with antique hunting in Lewes, and wonderful coastal towns. Lunch will be on our own today. Dinner this evening at The Mermaid, in the award winning dining room. B/D
August 15, Monday - Today we will explore Old Hastings. Amy has arranged for a fabulous workshop at Shirley Leaf & Petal Company and Museum. Learn the art of velvet trims for crafts, millinary and set design. An additional workshop will be held at Made in Hastings , taught by local artisans. Enjoy a pub lunch today. The afternoon is filled with antiques and local sights. Tonight we are enjoying the hospitality of friends in a gorgeous private home. B/L/D
August 16, Tuesday - The sojourn continues to Brighton by the Sea to visit the incredible Brighton Pavillion an elegant seside villa filled with Chinoiserie and Regency Style furnishings. The special exhibit Dress For Excess, Fashion in Regency England will be a highlight. Time for a special lunch and shopping in the Lanes before our departure to the glorious Cotswolds. Arrival in Burford. Enjoy dinner later this aftreroon. a great dinner in this charming village... B/l/D
August 17, Wednesday - This morning you will experience Waddesdon Manor, the exquisite French Chateau built for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in the 1880's. Explore the house, gardens, winery and fabulous shops. A wine tasting is included in our exclusive visit. The afternoon is at leisure in Burford, a great Cotswold Village with tea rooms, antiques and garden shops. Dinner is your choice this evening. B/L
August 18, Thursday - Your day will begin with an exclusive visit to Althorp, the childhood home of Princess Diana. We will tour the house, gardens and shops of this magnificent estate. Derbyshire is our destination and a lovely country house hotel will welcome you for the next three evenings. Dinner will be served in the hotel dining room this evening. Early to bed to prepare for the Newark Antiques Faire, the largest in Europe, more than 4000 dealers will tempt and delight you. B/D
August 19, Friday rise early today to enter the gates before 8 o'clock. A full day to shop to your hearts content. Shipping is available onsite. A photographers paradise as well. Lunch on your own at the faire. Dinner tonight in a local pub to share our stories and tell about your treasures, perhaps we will have a treasure hunt. B/D
August 20, Saturday - Today's star attraction will be the "behind the scenes" tour of Chatsworth, the family home of the Dukes of Devonshire. The grounds and house are extensive, many secret stairways to climb and gardens to stroll. Your day will be leisurley and a perfect end to our counrty house visits. Dinner this evening at our hotel. August 21, Sunday - Off to London, a great Sunday drive into one of the world's most exciting cities. Enroute to London we will stop for a visit to Woburn Abbey, the ancestoral home of the Duchess of Bedford, the creator of afternoon tea. The antiques, history and of course a fabulous afternoon tea await your visit. Your London hotel, well located in Kensington will offer a wonderful base to explore London. This evening many choices can be made, our concierge will offer suggestions. B/T
August 22, Monday - Your London visit begins with a speical workshop at the Pottery Cafe to create your very own Emma Bridgewater designed piece of ceramicware. The fired piece will be delivered to our hotel before your departure. Amy has an afternoon of tag along shopping planned. Learn about her favorite neighborhood boutiques and tea rooms. Tonight is a highlight, Dennis Severns House in Spittalfields. Step back to the 18th century and enter the world of a candle lit home with a crackling fire and the sense that someone has just left. A truly memorable experience. An off the charts dining experience a waits at Les Trois Garcons. The food is out of this world, but the ambiance of these artistic and talented antique dealers will fill your hearts and minds. B/L/D
August 23, Tuesday - We will visit the Victoria & Albert Museum this morning with Amy and her special friend Patrick, a Sotheby's expert in the Arts. Your afternoon is free, Amy will offer her suggestions for shopping and you can join her for afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason. You may wish to attend the theater this evening, we can arrange for the tickets and perhaps a late night turn on the London Eye. B/T
August 24, Wednesday - Amy and Chris have specially designed shopping itineraries today. You choose what tickles your fancy. Experience an elegant afternoon tea with Jane Pettigrew, one of the world's foremost authorities on afternoon tea. A perfect end to your tour of Jolly Ol' England. B/T
August 25, Thursday - Enjoy a lovely English breakfast this morning before departing for your home city or another destination abroad. B
